It was a tremendous privilege to be part of Michael and Emma’s wedding day celebrations at the delightful Dower House Hotel, Woodhall Spa. The glorious sunshine allowed the lovely couple and their guests to fully savour the beautiful environs of this stunning Lincolnshire venue.

Indeed, the fantastic weather also provided me with a wonderful opportunity to freely mix with Michael and Emma’s family and friends during drinks reception. Close-up card magic, classic illusions, mind-reading routines and curious predictions were delivered throughout this period.

Emma and Michael’s guests were certainly ready to enjoy some entertainment, and the rustic charm of the Dower House complimented the spectacle magnificently. The exceptionally talented PM Photography were present to expertly capture all of those special magical moments throughout the day. Indeed, the fantastic photographs within this article demonstrate Jonathan’s amazing skill and precision, and I am very thankful that he has kindly shared them. Emma and Michael had also requested that I deliver some table magic during the wedding breakfast. This form of entertainment is rather different to close-up ‘mix-and-mingle’ magic, and I must always ensure that my performances are blended into the schedule in an appropriate manner between the courses.
Entertaining the guests during this part of the wedding day allows me to perform a wide variety of illusions, sleight-of-hand and psychological effects which are all perfect for table-side. The guests, who I may have met during drinks reception, often invite me to entertain them during the meal.

I always strive to include everyone at any event I am fortunate to perform at, and Michael and Emma’s wedding was no exception. Child-friendly magic and balloon modelling was delivered for the younger guests too.

It was also a great honour to perform some special magic for the newlyweds after the wedding breakfast. Jonathan ensured that the routine was masterfully captured for posterity!

I was delighted when Valentine’s partner Jacqueline contacted me to arrange some entertainment for his very special birthday bash in Burton Upon Trent. The venue was the fantastic Dial Restaurant on Station Street, and family and friends travelled from far and wide to share the occasion.

It was a pleasure to customise magic for Valentine’s party!

The magic was to be a surprise and Jacqueline very kindly let me know about Valentine’s hobbies and interests beforehand. It is always a tremendous pleasure to customise some of my effects to suit the celebration. Valentine is a big Bob Marley fan and also enjoys gardening too. It was a fantastic evening and Valentine’s friends and family were a joy to entertain. Well done to Jacqueline in organising such a memorable party for everyone, and special thanks must go to all the staff at The Dial Restaurant for being so kind and helpful. I also enjoyed a slice of Valentine’s delicious birthday cake which was made by Jacqueline’s daughter Latia – that was the real magic on the night!

Arteus Cards Launch at Derby Museum of Making

It was a massive privilege and a pleasure to provide a little magic at the fantastic launch of Pictoria’s Arteus card deck. This highly innovative and beautifully designed deck of fifty two prompt cards invites us to unlock our creativity and unleash the inner artist. The magical environs of Derby’s Museum of Making provided the ideal mise en scene for such a special and unique occasion. Guests from all backgrounds and generations gathered to marvel at Pictoria’s diverse range of artwork on display, as well as her captivating presentation on the Arteus deck itself.

The Mayor of Derby Ged Potter and the High Sheriff of Derbyshire Ian Morgan OBE were in attendance, and it was tremendous to mingle with the guests and provide some close-up magic during drinks reception. Many of Pictoria’s art students, friends and members of the community – who she has profoundly influenced with her talents – had braved the elements on an autumnal Derbyshire evening to enjoy the spectacle.

Some of Pictoria’s exceptional artwork was on display. Easels were kindly provided by Michelle of Nice Love and Wishes.

Close-up magic always provides an opportunity to bring people together and helps to create a positive atmosphere at any event. It was also very interesting to hear everyone’s enthusiastic opinions regarding Pictoria’s outstanding Arteus deck when I performed at close quarters.

Happy Birthday Mr Blake!

I am delighted that my good friend Jamie Blake and his partner Rachel made it over to Phoenix, Arizona to celebrate Jamie’s Dad’s 86th birthday with him recently. It has been a tough time over the past couple of years as families have been unable to mix due to the pandemic. I was even more ecstatic when I discovered that Jamie’s Dad liked the artwork of Glasgow City Chambers and Ibrox Stadium (home of Rangers Football Club) that I created.

Jamie’s Dad is a fellow Scotsman and lifelong Rangers supporter, so it is a tremendous honour to have this artwork hanging on the wall of his home in The Grand Canyon State! I first met Jamie and his son Jack – who plays professional football for San Diego Loyal – when performing magic at a house party in Nottingham several years ago, and we became good friends. Jamie is very passionate about football and it is always great to chat to him about the Beautiful Game.
