Valentine’s Day Magic in Lincoln

It’s always fantastic to visit the great city of Lincoln; and even better to perform magic there! I was delighted to have the opportunity to entertain audiences on Valentine’s Day this year around the majestic cathedral quarter and Bailgate areas of the unique town centre. The exceptional Paul Massey was on hand to expertly capture the magic, and we had a truly magical day in a stunningly picturesque location.

Providing the gift of magic on Valentine’s Day

The beauty of the close-up magic and illusions that I can deliver is that they can be appreciated in virtually any setting. It was a pleasure to provide some magical entertainment both indoors and outdoors to celebrate Valentine’s Day. Some special mystifying memories were created for the lovely couples I encountered on my travels around the old town centre.

A magical memory for Molly and Oliver

It was wonderful to engage both visitors and locals with some magic around the stunning edifice of Lincoln Cathedral. As an experienced performer, I can customise my repertoire to suit the location, and I am very fortunate to have had plenty of experience delivering illusions and legerdemain in an outdoor setting over the years.

Valentine’s Day magic in the Duke William Hotel

After mingling around the cathedral area, it was tremendous to visit the historic Duke William Hotel on the Bailgate and entertain everyone present. This provided me with the opportunity to deliver some of my favourite visual magical effects, as well as some more mysterious routines to captivate the Valentine’s Day audience.

Comedy and interaction are vital elements of close-up magic

It is always vital to strike up a solid rapport with the audience when performing magic. Suffice to say that the Lincolnshire crowd are always a joy to entertain! It was fantastic to blend some of my older material with several newer effects on the day. Indeed, it is very important that magicians continue to strive for excellence within their act, and continue to develop unique and original material for everyone to enjoy.

It’s always a pleasure to entertain at table-side

Overall it was a superb day in Lincoln! Thank you again to all of the lovely people who shared the magic, and I do hope that you were left thoroughly entertained. Special thanks again to Paul Massey and the Duke William Hotel. I hope to return to this fantastic city again very soon and continue to amaze audiences with my sleight-of-hand!

I hope to return to Lincoln very soon

International Bomber Command Centre, Lincoln

‘we must never forget that all the time, night after night, month after month, our bomber squadrons travel far into Germany, find their targets, often under the heaviest fire, often with serious loss, with deliberate, careful discrimination, and inflict shattering blows upon the whole of the technical and war-making structure of the Nazi power’

Sir Winston Churchill (British Prime Minister 1940 – 1945, 1951- 1955)

The International Bomber Command Centre, located close to the centre of Lincoln, is a poignant memorial to all those brave men and women who served our country in order to secure the freedoms we enjoy today. Make sure you visit this exceptional venue the next time you are in Lincolnshire.

The Memorial Spire stands at 102 feet tall – the wingspan of a Lancaster Bomber

I have friends and family members who have served in the Royal Air Force, British Army and Royal Navy. The Memorial Garden at the centre is a fitting tribute to the ultimate sacrifice of our air personnel. The Memorial Spire is the UK’s tallest war memorial standing at 102 feet tall – the same length as the wingspan of the Lancaster Bomber. There is a definite presence of the fallen when walking in the garden, and their names are inscribed in this fitting memorial.

Lincoln Cathedral can be seen from the Memorial Spire – its imposing edifice was used as a landmark by RAF flight crew

Lincolnshire has enjoyed a long and celebrated history with the Royal Air Force. My uncle – who served in the RAF – was stationed here prior to his tour of duty in Cyprus. The imposing edifice of Lincoln Cathedral served as a navigational beacon for RAF pilots during World War II, and it is fitting that this beautiful landmark can be viewed from the Memorial Spire of the International Bomber Command Centre.

A potent quotation on the wall of the exhibition

The exhibition at the centre is highly informative, and serves as an exceptional educational resource for younger generations. We are taken on an unforgettable journey into wartime Europe, and the extreme dangers faced by the RAF air crews during this period are potently revealed. I consider myself extremely fortunate to have grown up in a time of peace; which was secured for my generation by the bravery and sacrifice of those who lived during the horrors of World War II.

The gift shop offers a fantastic selection of memorabilia

The Lancaster Bomber is perhaps best known for the daring raid by 617 Squadron on the German dams in May 1943. The famous ‘Bouncing Bomb’ developed by Sir Barnes Neville Wallis has become part of British folklore, and inflicted a severe blow to the Nazi war machine. The Lancaster Bomber and the bravery of the ‘Dambusters’ pilots have also been immortalised in film, literature and popular culture.

Another extraordinary story about the Lancaster Bomber is the legendary account of Nicolas Alkemade whose aircraft came under attack over Germany in 1944. He fell 18,000 feet from his plane without a parachute and lived to tell the tale! Read about this fascinating wartime anecdote here: The Story of Nicolas Alkemade.

There have been many outstanding books written about the Dambusters

The International Bomber Command Centre boasts a fantastic gift shop which offers an extensive array of memorabilia. The restaurant is exceptional and provides high quality snacks and meals throughout the day. Indeed, the centre is an excellent choice of location for parties, corporate events, presentations and educational excursions.

My humble tribute to the Lancaster Bomber – a balloon model of this aircraft

I was tremendously privileged to perform magic for SERCO during their Christmas party at the centre in December 2022. It is always fantastic to visit, and I heartily recommend that you support International Bomber Command Centre, Lincoln and ensure that the memory of our brave air force personnel endures.

Happy Birthday Helen and Su!

suhelen9
Su and Helen hosted a very special birthday party with a difference!

I was profoundly flattered when Su Roys asked me to perform magic at a very special birthday party at the West Retford Hotel, Nottinghamshire, in December 2017. I first met Su at the offices of Siren FM, Lincoln, two years ago and I was delighted that my magic had left a lasting impression. Su and her twin sister Helen celebrated a very important birthday this year, and I was very privileged to be part of the proceedings.

The sisters greet their guests in the wonderful surroundings of the West Retford Hotel.

The sisters had selected a wonderful venue for their celebrations. Situated in close proximity to the major A1 artery, the West Retford Hotel is perfect for parties, weddings and corporate functions. Indeed, Alice and the exceptional events team at the hotel ensured that Helen and Su’s birthday bash went down a storm!

It was an immense pleasure to entertain Su and Helen’s lovely family and friends.

I am a very fortunate man to be invited to such momentous occasions. It truly was a tremendous experience to perform close-up magic and table-side illusions for Su and Helen’s nearest and dearest. In this fast-paced internet age we seldom have the opportunity to gather friends and family together to celebrate – so this was definitely a moment to savour. The sisters are blessed with a lovely group of relatives, and the exceptional Alistair Crust (Su and Helen’s brother) and his fiancée Holly Hardman were on hand to capture everything on camera!

suhelen7
All generations came together to celebrate Su and Helen’s very special birthday.

After a fantastic meal, everyone present was treated to the prodigious talents of vocalist Dan Hadfield. This certainly was a birthday party with a difference and all the guests – from the youngest to the eldest – had an amazing time!

The sensational Dan Hadfield ensured everyone was dancing well into the evening.

Happy birthday Helen and Su – and hopefully I will have the opportunity to entertain you again soon. Thank you for calling upon my services, and I wish you both all the very best for the future.
