It was a tremendous pleasure and a privilege to be part of Hannah and Ed’s wedding day at the fantastic Gradbatch Mill, Buxton in July 2024. Indeed, I was delighted when the lovely couple asked me to perform magic during the early evening reception. It truly was a magical day at an exceptional location in the heart of the enchanting Peak District.

It was wonderful to freely mix with the lovely couple’s family and friends, performing close-up magic. Magical card routines, mind-reading effects and classic illusions were the order of the day, and Hannah and Ed’s guests were truly a joy to entertain. This period of the wedding reception is fantastic as I can also provide some special routines of prestidigitation for the newly-weds.

It was a tremendous privilege to entertain everyone at Marian and Liam’s wedding celebrations in July 2022 at Dalbury Lees Village Hall in Derbyshire. The big day had been rescheduled due to the pandemic, and I was delighted that the lovely couple and their friends and family finally had the opportunity to celebrate in style.

Marian and Liam had asked me to provide entertainment during the evening reception, and it was a pleasure to meet and greet the guests as they arrived at the hall. It was a beautiful Derbyshire summer evening, so I was very fortunate to be able to perform close-up ‘mix-and-mingle’ magic outdoors.

The newlyweds’ guests were a treat to entertain, and it was great to see smiles on the faces of all generations. The tremendously talented photographer Melissa Maloo was circulating, and she expertly captured all of those important moments throughout Marian and Liam’s wedding. Indeed, Melissa, Marian and Liam have very kindly allowed me to display these superb images in this blog article.

Marian and Liam’s wedding was even more special as I also had the opportunity to perform a show for the entire group prior to the speeches. The seating area to the rear of Dalbury Lees Village Hall was perfect for this spectacle, and it was great to bring everyone together to celebrate such a magical day!

What a tremendous day it was; celebrating the lovely Sophie and Chris’s wedding at Shustoke Barn, Coleshill in April of this year. The wedding had been delayed several times due to the pandemic, so it was fantastic to see everyone enjoying themselves at this exceptional Warwickshire venue!

Sophie and Chris asked me to entertain their guests during the period between the wedding breakfast and first dance. This is a great time to engage friends and family, and I was also able to provide both Bride and Groom with a special magical routine as well.

If you play with me, then you play with fire! The superb Damian Burcher was on hand to capture all of the action on the big day – and he never missed a beat – expertly photographing all those very special moments. It was very kind of Damian, Sophie and Chris to allow me to display these fantastic photographs on my blog!

Performing close-up magic and table magic for Sophie and Chris’s guests was a pleasure and a privilege. I was delighted to be able to provide my full repertoire of effects which includes: card magic, classic illusions, sleight-of-hand and psychological entertainment. ‘Mix and Mingle Magic’ is versatile, and is always a big hit on wedding days!

I know what you’re thinking… It’s always magnificent to perform mind-reading effects on a wedding day! This form of magic always leaves the audience speechless and has a very profound impact. People who experience this phenomenon will talk about it for years to come, and it is very satisfying for me to deliver.

Eastwood Hall – once the offices of the Coal Board now a prestigious four star venue

It’s always fantastic to visit Eastwood and entertain audiences at weddings, parties and special events. Most recently it was a tremendous privilege to be part of Tanya and Matt’s fantastic wedding at the outstanding Eastwood Hall.

The town is most famous as being the birthplace of the world famous writer and poet DH Lawrence (1885 – 1930) and his legacy remains evident around the area. Indeed, the DH Lawrence Birthplace and Museum on Victoria Street provides an interesting insight into this extraordinary man’s life, work and times.

Lawrence would spend his formative years at the Breach House on Garden Road. This is where the seeds of his genius were sown and inspiration for future literary masterpieces was provided. The Breach House can be visited and forms part of the Blue Line Trail.

Lawrence drew from the unique social and cultural aspects of life around Eastwood and its environs at the turn of the twentieth century. His father was a coal miner and worked at the local Brinsley colliery.

Age UK – A Lock-down Lifeline

Age UK have done a magnificent job in providing a lock-down lifeline for thousands of older people across the length and breadth of the country. Since March, the charity has been offering invaluable support by ensuring essential medical and food supplies are delivered to people’s homes.

I have been well aware of the exceptional work Age UK does throughout the community for many years, and I have been very fortunate to have performed magic at their lively fundraising events. These occasions are always very well attended and are opportunities to celebrate their work supporting isolated and vulnerable people.

Indeed, I was delighted that the charity accepted my application to assist with food and medical deliveries when the lockdown started. There are a lot of people around Nottingham in the over 70 age group who have been confined to their homes since March, and it has been a tremendously challenging time for them to say the least. Some elderly people may not have friends or family close at hand, so Age UK has provided an essential network for them. I have been very fortunate and privileged to have been part of this team and witness first hand the difference the charity makes.

‘Without the help of Age UK, I have no idea how we would have coped’ reflected Mrs Fletcher, whose husband was hospitalised during lockdown and has thankfully since recovered from the virus. ‘The weekly food and medical deliveries have taken a large weight off our minds and really helped to reduce the stress levels!’

Working with Age UK has been a hugely enriching experience and has provided me with some much needed structure each week during this chaotic time. I always look forward to the deliveries, chatting to different people and listening to their experiences and perspectives. The crisis has made me even more thankful for being fit and healthy, and also revealed the tremendous amount of good will within the community. Local food store employees and pharmacists have been very keen to assist, and gone above and beyond to ensure that vital supplies reach the people who need them most.

Happy Birthday Rachel!

I was delighted and very flattered when Jamie and Rachel asked me to perform magic at a very important birthday bash in Nottingham recently! The venue was the fantastic Botti Di Mamma in Hockley and it definitely was a memorable and magical occasion.

Rachel’s family and close-friends were not only treated to the exquisite ambience and exceptional cuisine of this first class venue, but the talents of Nottingham musical quartet The Money ensured it truly was a fantastic evening. Jamie has known the band for many years and was delighted that they could be part of such an important event. They are always a massive hit wherever they perform!

It was a privilege to mingle with such a warm and receptive group of people, and I was also delighted to perform a little customised magic for both Rachel and her father Brian. Indeed, it was very kind of Jamie and Rachel to invest their trust in me for such a big night, and I always hope that I can repay this in my performance.

A very important occasion calls for a very talented cameraman, and Will Slater was present in order to expertly capture the proceedings. As you can appreciate from the photographs proudly displayed in this article, Will’s timing, sixth-sense and attention to detail is immaculate.

Overall, the party was a resounding success and friends and family partied well into the small hours! Happy birthday Rachel! And well done to everyone for helping to create such a tremendous occasion – I hope that you and Jamie had a great time in the USA.

Life in the Fast Lane – Barry Sheene, Silverstone and Seventies Nostalgia

The 1970s was a definitive decade socially, culturally and politically. By Nick Elliott’s own admission, it was a great time of exploration and experimentation. Having been an avid motor-sport fanatic in his youth, Nick was in dreamland when top end magazines such as Motorcycle News and Motorcycle Racing commissioned him to capture the action on race days.

A passion for racing has resonated within Nick since childhood, and he and brother Gary frequently raced motorbikes and cars throughout the UK during their adolescence. Some of the Peterborough photographer’s earliest and fondest memories involve off-road biking with friends and family. A devil-may-care attitude, and propensity for risk taking quickly evolved, and this is clearly reflected in Nick’s exceptional and unique brand of photography.

Nick often fondly recalls memories of iconic venues such as Silverstone and Donington Park in the 1970s when legends such as Barry Sheene and Giacomo Agostini graced the track. Such superstars burned the candle at both ends, and Nick enjoyed rubbing shoulders with these larger than life characters before and after their sensational performances. The champagne flowed – along with the incredible tales of past glories – in the race course bars where Nick became privy to the personal strife and struggles of the world famous stars of motor racing.

Nick Elliott was present for Barry Sheene’s sensational World Championship victories in 1976 and 1977. He also fondly remembers the indefatigable Englishman’s clashes with Kenny Roberts in the 1979 Grand Prix at Silverstone. These profound experiences have left a massive impression upon Nick, fashioning him onto the distinctive lens-man he is today.
